Octogenarian wants to donate 1 crore to army martyr’s families; gives 25 lakh as advance.
In an event organized by Rotary Club of Chennai Prestige (RCCP) on January 2, octogenarian Rotarian Mr. V Sriraman and his wife, Ann. PHF Akhila Sriraman donated Rs 25 lakh as an advance amount towards the Welfare of Army Martyrs Family members. The couple handed over the cheque to Lt. Colonel, Cdr. A.Arun, GOC, Dakshin Bharat. Sriraman said that he will be paying 75 lakhs in July 2022 for the same cause as he wanted to give a total of rupees 1 crore to the Welfare of Army Martyrs families.
Sriraman added that the decision to contribute the sum for the welfare of the armed forces personnel was taken after the helicopter carrying General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika and 12 others crashed near Coonoor in the Nilgiris on December 8.
Mr. Sriraman, who has served as president for two terms in Rotary Club of Madras Downtown was instrumental in innumerable projects – including Development of Science Block of JGVV School, Elixir of Life of providing drinking water in Corporation Schools, among others.
The program was attended by Rotarians, their families, and army personnel, who paid rich tribute to those who laid their lives for the nation. RCCP facilitated the entire program under the Presidentship of Rtn. PHF Suresh.
