Awareness on Domestic Violence against Women
Domestic Violence on Women
has been seen predominantly in our day today life involving all ages of women. Abuse
and neglect of the elder women is a common social problem not only in our country
but across the globe. In India, 8% of the population was recorded 60 years and
above in 2011 census and it is expected to increase its share to 12.5 % to 20%
by 2026 and 2050 respectively.
There are laws and policies by government and it
has not reached the elderly women yet in India. Abuse to elderly women in any
form is considered as crime. It can be physical, emotional, sexual, economical,
healthcare fraud & abuse, elder neglect. As a social initiative of Lexa
Earth events, V.O.V (Voice Out for Violence) association has been founded by Dr.
Hemamalini Rajinikanth who is the Co-founder of Lexa Events and also holds the
title Mrs. South Asia Universe 2022. She has conducted an awareness rally on
Domestic Violence against Elderly Women, in which 150+ people including school
children, senior citizens and empowered women came together at Nanganallur, Chennai.
Through the awareness rally, we are not only educating the public but also
nurturing the next generation with responsibilities towards senior citizens and
humanity
